The House Hazards Family

Yesterday, Kirsti, from the Kent Fire Department came to visit Room 206. She brought with her the House Hazard Family complete with their own Hazardous House! This house came complete with working fire detectors, real smoke and sparks. Among many other ideas, students learned:

"Don't use electrical appliances in a bath tub."
"Don't overload the electrical outlets making an 'octopus' of hazard."
"Don't leave cooking unattended."
"Don't sleep and smoke. Don't smoke."
"Use a pan lid to stop a stove fire instead of water."
"The triangle of fire = fuel + oxygen + heat."

The students made their own fire escape plan of their own homes as a follow-up activity.
