I give homework Monday-Thursday. I do not assign homework over the weekend as a sign of respect for family time. I know families are very busy and need time to be together without the struggles of homework.
Here is the weekly homework pattern:
- Read 15-20 minutes each night
- Record reading minutes on Reading Log + parent initials
- Spelling Packet - one page per night versus doing the whole packet in one sitting
- Math page: Homework & Remembering
- Entry Task - to be completed at home if student did not finish in class
Rewards:
The rewards are plentiful. Besides learning to be self-sufficient, responsible, organized and reliable, students increase the value of their daily lessons by practicing the skills at home. And if that's not motivation enough... there's more rewards...

Entry Tasks: Professor Riddle (pink) / Math 4 Today (purple) / Telling Time (yellow) / Mystery Picture (white)
IXL Math: homework is given once/twice a week with this Internet site. Please do NOT allow students to complete any of the tasks until I assign the tasks because I align the tasks with our curriculum.
XtraMath: this site builds students' basic math skills. This site can be visited daily by the students.
Spelling: Please study the words on Thursday nights with your child. We have tests each Friday - or the last day of the week. I will not assign spelling on 2-3 day weeks.
