Brianna Helps with Writing

Brianna, who graduates this year from the University of Puget Sound [a private university in Tacoma] in English/Creative Writing with a Sociology Minor, came to pay us a visit on her day off from classes. She came to help make bat books for our bat unit and stayed to help with writing circles. The students were working on their personal narrative stories, so she met with them to hear their work and offer suggestions. Thank you, Brianna. It's great to have my daughter visit my students.

Superheros by Tucker

Tucker came to visit when the students earned enough Tucker Points for good behavior in PE/Music/Library/Assemblies/Computers. He taught them how to draw a superhero. Some of the students called their superhero Captain Cardio for the Jogathon hero [aka: Mr. Lofstrom -- shhh! don't tell the students. It's a big secret].

Dictionary Day!

Police Cheif Thomas and Deputy Mike, from the Kent Sunrise Rotary, came to visit the entire third grade to give them their own personal dictionary! These dictionaries are gorgeous! They are color coded filled with graphics. The students were so excited! And as a side bonus, Deputy Mike stated that in 10 years of visiting schools, this was the BEST assembled students he had ever visited! He liked our attention, politeness, calm and quiet listening skills, our attentive behaviors and our participation. Way to go Navigators!

Dual Birthdays

We celebrated both Isaac's and Natanya's birthdays this week - actually, back-to-back.
Natanya made these treats for the students last night. Both brought treats which wound the class up waaaaayyyy too much because they were excited to have the treats and then had too much sugar in their systems after lunch/recess - treats are served at lunch. I have now asked the students to bring in a birthday book instead of treats because the treats have been such a distraction and disruption for the student's learning. Bummer, I know!

Nifty Navigators

On Monday, we had an assembly. The assembly was a play performance with the theme of bullying. The Taproot Theater did a fine job with their presentation. The students learned the three Rs about bullying:
  • Recognize - the bullying behaviors
  • Refuse - to participate in bullying behaviors
  • Report - bullying behaviors to a trusted adult
During the assembly, we also had our first round of Navigator Awards. I chose three students in our class who demonstrated our three key expectations. The students earned a lanyard with their picture on an ID Card from our school photographers - thanks O'Connor Photography! Congratulations goes to the following students.
  • Act Safely - Arundeep
  • Show Respect - Aidan
  • Be Responsible - Agnessa
