Hey Students,
I hope that you have your popper I gave you for Christmas to use tonight. I also hope that when you pop the popper you will think about how much you have learned so far in third grade and be ready to plow ahead with more learning upon our return. There are a lot of books to read, math to learn, science to discover, social studies to digest, and the enjoyment of being a team. Go Team Standlee! Miss you all.
Additionally, if you chose to post comments, remember NOT to use your LAST name. Thank you.
See you soon,
Mrs. Standlee

IXL over the Break, Anyone?
Are you remembering to work on IXL over the break? I hope so as this will help you stay fresh and ready when school resumes. Remember, we are working on the C Family. Try to have this section finished by Jan. I am watching to see who is working. Let me hear from you. What have you done on IXL?

Mr. Torres Teaches Victor Vasarely
Mr. Torres, our Art Dad, came to teach us about Victor Vasarely and his art which shows motion. Our objective was to make our own art in motion with snowflakes.
Thank you, Mr. Torres, for another wonderful art lesson. And thanks goes to Mr. Domingo for mounting our art and making our art display. It's amazing what a little folded color paper and scissors can do!

Party Prep!
We have our Holiday Houses Winter Party on Tuesday from 2:15-3:15. Mr. Standlee and I came in over the weekend to do some party preparations. Here is Mr. Standlee passing out the candy for the houses. Each student gets his/her own bag of goodies.
Thank you for bringing your party items, students!
Mrs. Standlee was prepping the houses. First she had to rinse the cartons and let them dry. Then she had to tape them closed. Finally, she had to hot glue them down onto the paper plate.
When Mr. Standlee finished, the result looked like this sample bag.
When Mrs. Standlee finished, the houses looked like these samples.
Just waiting for the students. Mrs. Standlee had to do the rest of the prep at home. She had to whip up three and a half batches of icing and make 24 bags of icing. This whole process took over three hours.

M & M's in Math?
Today Mrs. Standlee actually gave students candy? Gulp! It's true, I did. We had to have something to use for our graphing activities. Right? Right. Yum!

Fine Dining Award!
During the December Awards Assembly last week, our class won the Fine Dining Award for the month of November. This means that our class was polite, respectful, and clean in the lunchroom. They raised their hands when they needed to get items they needed, to use the restroom or had a question. Additionally, this means each student cleaned up after him/herself after lunch was finished. Good job Team Standlee!

Making Connections
We have been working on the Reading Strategy Making Connections. More secifically, we have been working on making Text-to-Self Connections. After Mrs. Standlee reads a picture book, we have been writing in our Reader's Resonse Journals a connection that we can make with the text.

Who's Doing Their Homework?
This is Emma. She is the only one who completed all of her homework for the month of September. She got to go to the Prize Box!
This is Isaac, Kylie
Isaac, Kylie / "Hollywood", Gurleen, Agnessa and Monica. Gues what? We had a big improvement in homework completion in October. They all went to the Prize Box.
Do you detect a pattern? The group is growing. Natanya, Nhon, Sureya and Natalie joined the Prize Box earners!
Who will be in the group next month? December is a difficult moth to earn a trip to the Prize Box. I hope we have many trips. You know what to do Navigators! Let's go Team Standlee!

Mr. Lofstrom an Honorary HUSKY!!!
You guessed it! He lost the bet. The superior Huskies won the Apple Cup again this year! This is his first time being honored enough to wear the royal colors of purple and gold. Losing a bet never felt so good, I'm sure. I did let him hold up that strange coat of his, just because I felt he needed a little comfort. It's not easy owning up to a losing bet. Mr. Lofstrom should know better than to make such a bet. What a good sport and a man of his word. I secretly LOVE that he had to wear such regal colors. Go DAWGS!

Turkey Buddies
Yes, that's what we are calling our time with our Little Buddies. What would you call it?
We cut.
We pasted.
We smiled.
We posed.
We created.
We displayed!
Thanks for hosting us, Mrs. Mayer and Mrs. Dalpay.
